Just your typical small-town success story: The alt-country singer-songwriter labored on the North Carolina club scene for a few years until Lost Highway took note, and before you knew it, debut LP Bramble Rose was one of 2002's most highly regarded records. No wonder Merritt took a "hiatus" (after successful follow-up Tambourine) to Paris and beyond to compose the haunting, delicate melodies herein.
