'Maybe it's logical that nothing could sound more natural than the mixing of so many different styles. After all, the stuff used in fire extinguishers isn't remotely edible, but it's hard to imagine an electronic album more palatable than Butter Flavored Halon.' --Splendid E-zine The Troposcatter are unix gurus, cat lovers, outdated telco equipment stalkers and really cute. Ranging from pop-licious and cutesy-but-intricate electropop to bizarre funky hip hop and house beats-- the Troposcatter bring you beep music at it's finest. With synthpop songs about torrid dyke love affairs that take place in small towns you've never heard of to trip-hop homages to Chicago and Lake Michigan, the Troposcatter certainly exhibit a mastery of a wide range of subject matter and musical styles. Some describe songs on the album as being closer to IDM, while others say their house music influence is incredibly strong (this shines through in The Troposcatter's tribute to the Baltimore Club Music underground 'Baltimore (freeky deeky)' and the acid house stylings of 'Theme From The Troposcatter Dance.' The Troposcatter is actively recording at all hours of the day, I hear they don't sleep. 'Sleep is for the weak,' says Nikki, singer and synthesist, 'it's totally optional, you know?' Butter Flavored Halon is the band's first label release from a promising newcomer, Banazan Records. ----------------- About the Troposcatter: The Troposcatter is Nikki, Josh, and some machines. Nikki is a New Jersey transplant living and breathing outside of Washington dc. She sings, synthesizes, programs and smokes for the Troposcatter. Nikki loves red soda and her favorite color is pink. You can find her hiding behind a keyboard or sitting on the ground next to a microwave tower writing manifestos or love songs. Nikki is obsessed with geography and thinks of maps as pornography. Her car is filled with unfolded maps and empty bottles of welsh's strawberry soda. She is a taurus, leo rising. Josh is a Chicago boy trapped in the DC area. He synthesizes, programs and plays stringed instruments for the Troposcatter. Josh is a cat trapped in the body of a boy, and cats know this upon meeting him--most of his best friends are cats. Josh can script, lay down beats and find hidden microwave towers like a pro. Josh is a pisces and hates astrology.
